PETA – People Euthanizing The Animals

This was shared on a natural pet list I belong too (for natural rearing breeders).  If you think PETA is about helping, saving or otherwise caring for animals you are wrong.  Check out these shocking numbers for their “shelter”.

Posted by MM:

According to official shelter reports filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia (where the PETA “shelter”, if you want to call it that, is located), PETA took in 2345 animals, of which 44 were adopted out, 2,200 were killed
(euphemistic word used in report is “euthanized”), and 63 were transferred out of the shelter. PETA’s kill rate in 2010 was 93.81%.

Copies of Official Commonwealth of Virginia reports here:

http://petakillsanimals.com/downloads/PetaKillsAnimals.pdf

Article on PETA’s record here (they haven’t updated the article to show the 2010 numbers yet, reports just came out)

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

According to the combined yearly totals (since 1998), PETA has taken in 29,823 animals into their “shelter”, and killed 25,840 of these for a kill rate of 85.1% – a rate that I would suspect is among the highest in the country (even
shelters in the deep South typically don’t have a kill rate above 60% if that.)

And PETA is telling breeders, farmers, etc what they should be doing??!!

Make sure these numbers get spread far and wide!!!

It’s time we woke up as a society and held this animal terrorist organization responsible for all the pets they are murdering.  They point the finger at breeders, hunters, farmers and pet owners but the blood is all over them.

Responsible Breeders in Texas need your help!

Oppose HB 1451 Commercial Dog & Cat Breeder Act

Please take a moment to call, email or fax in your opposition to this bill.  It could mean the end of breeders in Texas (responsible ones) forcing us from hobby/small breeders into commercial breeding operations or out of breeding all together.  I won’t breed my animals as if i was a commercial operation with the animals in cages and without human companionship or their jobs to do (in the case of the livestock guardian dogs).

Follow this link to read about the bill and email your own letter with one easy click. http://saova.org/TexasHB1451.html

This is my letter to our legislators:

As a responsible cat and future dog breeder I ask you to oppose this bill!!  It has unreasonable standards for compliance and interference by often times less educated and inexperienced “animal control” not only hurts the animals but can shut down responsible breeders over large commercial outfits that can afford to jump through various legal hoops and hire big gun lawyers.

Not only as a responsible breeder to I bring revenue to the state by the supplies I get for my animals, the veterinary care I pay for, the shipping fees, the show fees, travel expenses, hotels and more I also bring people to Texas who travel through to pick up their new pets and stay awhile.  I also spend countless hours educating people on responsible pet ownership, and breeding as well.  We are not the enemy.  We are your tax payers, your voters and your supporters.

I absolutely oppose this bill for the sake of the animals and for responsible breeders such as myself and I hope you will too.  It would be better to spend our valuable, and shrinking state budget, on education, our teachers, our roads and helping animals in true need that are abandoned, neglected and abused every day than trying to police every small time breeder in the state.  Our state budget can’t take it and those breeders forced to quit will flood state funded shelters with more homeless animals and further create a burden.

Thank you,
Dawn Campbell

Siberian Kitten from Russia – Pendraig’s New Princess

Image of Siberian Kitten from Russia

Turandot-Amour Fialka

TURANDOT-AMOUR FIALKA

It is with great joy that we announce our plans to bring over a new import from Russia.  This girl is from Fialka cattery, a top cattery producing amazing traditional Siberian cats.  We have long admired Fialka’s cats and it is a dream become reality that we are finally bringing home a Fialka Siberian Cat of our very own.

Turandot is very special not just because she is from Fialka lines on her sire’s side but because she offers the US a new foundation line through her dam.  Cats not seen in our gene pool will be adding to the diversity of our breed and will be a great asset to our Golden Siberian Cat program.

Her sire is G Int. CH Amour-Timange Fialka.  He is titled in both WCF and FIFe.  He represents the glory that is the Siberian Cat in it’s traditional form, large, big boned, and well muscled he looks like a wild cat on the prowl.

His beautiful head and coat can set any heart a flutter.  It is little wonder he has been so successful.  He also comes from two EC (European Champions) for parents, EC Jonathan-Timange Fialka and EC Veilchen Prinzessin.

Her dam Manchzhury Gertsoginya of Fialka is out of foundation lines bringing lines from as far away as Vladivostok in the far East (a Pacific Port) with lines from east of Moscow.  She represents the aboriginal Siberian cat and provides a unique chance for diversity in our cattery, through her daughter, not found in many others.

Turandot represents the best of the marriage between champion show line cats and foundation cats.  We can only believe she will bring the best of both to our cattery.

Siberian Kittens Due from Gemma and Zoran

Image of Siberian Cat Gemma of Pendraig

CH Forest Wind Gemma Sultanova of Pendraig

We are approaching the due date for our highly anticipated litter between two amazing Champion Siberian Cats.  As Gemma continues to grow in her pregnancy her large belly are hinting at either a good sized litter or large kittens, likely both.   Either of which both she and the sire, Zoran are known for producing.

In this litter we are hopeful for Red Classic tabby Siberian Kittens, Silver Classic Siberian Kittens and some Classic Torbie Siberian kittens as well.  It should prove to be a colorful and delightful litter with excellent size, type, coats and super sweet personalities.

Both cats have had recent and clear HCM screenings.  We are processing some other health checks for Gemma but all are expected to be normal.  Her previous litter with Jorrah Karat produced some exceptional kittens including Pendraig Nimue Emrys of (N)Siberikos who will be traveling soon to Norway and her new home at (N)Siberikos cattery.

Zoran is a sweet character adored by his family that includes one very devoted mother and Siberian Cat Breeder at Nadezhda Siberians, her husband and their four beautiful girls.  Zoran has produced some gorgeous kittens including Nadezhda Bella Zoranova Black who has had great success already showing in CFA and she has a regional breed title.  Zoran has a striking pattern and coloring, outstanding type and boning, and the awesome Siberian cat coat that Cica cats are known for all over the world.  Combined with Gemma’s outstanding qualities including her equally good coat, outstanding boning, very wide and well proportioned head these kittens should be outstanding.

Siberian Kitten to be Pendraig’s Newest Princess

Image of Siberian Kitten blue silver torbie of Pendraig.

Pendraig Phaedre is a Princess (Siberian Queen in Training)

Finally after waiting for years we have chosen Lily’s successor.  Her beautiful daughter Pendraig Phaedre will join the beautiful array of Siberian Cat Queens when she comes of age.  For now she is a sweet little princess enjoying the good life, good raw food and love we give all of our Siberian cats and kittens.

She is a blue silver torbie though her silver is difficult to see right now.  She has large boning, heft and size already for such a young girl of only 10 weeks.  Her lines bring us a great combination of show successes and foundation cats.  Her sire TGC Jorrah Karat has proven himself in the show hall and though her mother is not a show cat she has many prestigious champions in her pedigree and rare foundation lines to augment the gene pool of our precious breed.

We look forward to what Phaedre will bring us in the future and to the joy she brings us now.  So many kittens leave here for their homes with families that adore them and we must say good bye, and a little of heart leaves with them.  This time we have one to keep and that makes us happy.  This year should be a good year for Pendraig with a few cats joining our cattery after the last two years of cutting down and changing to a new direction.

Phaedre’s name was to be Phèdre after a character in the novels by Jacqueline Carey that start with Kushiel’s Dart.  I love these books not just for the plot but for the beautiful writing and eloquence therein.  It is a joy to read and Phèdre is a character to admire, a true heroine that makes the best of what life has given her and owns her destiny taking a hold of it with both hands.  She has a strength that is not forceful but comes from her ability to yield and submit and thus win in the end.  Our little Phaedre has the same strength in character, the ability to bend instead of break and to take on new adventures with a full heart and even some exuberance.  I hope she grows up to mirror the beauty and grace of this character as well and the red dot on her forehead makes me think of the blood red mote in Phèdre’s eye.

Cat Fancy May 2011 Issue – Siberian Cats and Gemma!

We received word from the photographer Helmi Flick that Gemma’s photo was chosen to be placed in the Cat Fancy article on Siberian Cats in the May 2011 Issue.  We are so pleased to have our girl out there and seen by the world.  She is a gorgeous and unusual looking Brown Classic Torbie and in this photo the purple seems to make her dazzle.  Helmi Flick is an amazing photographer that manages to bring out the best in every cat we’ve had her photograph.

Thank you Helmi and thank you Gemma for this wonderful experience.  Thank you also to Cat Fancy!  We look forward to the article and to seeing our cat in a national publication.
